And so it begins

You may remember my oldest? Ryan? The one we've always had struggles with? Well, a new one is occurring. It's called "the pre-teen years". He'll be 9 in a few weeks, and man if that kid isn't turning into a little a-hole. I say that in the most loving way possible, really. I mean think about it, were any of us NOT a-holes as adolescents? I don't think so.

I've been bracing myself for it, but it is still kind of a shock. I think nothing can truly prepare you until you just go through it yourself. When you look at your sweet first born and think "My gosh, who ARE you? And how do I make you go away?"

I'm sure Ryan is going to be an amazing man someday. One full of life and compassion. That is, if we all make it through this alive. . .

(and I have to go through this three more times after him, ACK!)

I love your honesty. Great picture to go with the post!

I'm already dreading what puberty will be like in our house. I warn The General almost daily that he has no idea what is going to hit this house in about eight to ten years.

Yup, and each of them will be different about how they go through it.

There are days now where we just look at each other and say, "Seven more years...We can hold on for seven more years." Although sometimes I say "six" because the Marines will take seventeen year olds with parental consent. "Say hello to Gunnery Sergeant Mills. He has some very interesting and exciting things to say to you about the Corps."

I am seriously wearing the BIGGEST smile right now because just the other night I said "Why does he have to be such an @$$?" talking about Kaden to Harry, and I thought he was going to die! But seriously, I am right there with you. Nine is so "big kid" these days *sigh*
