Couch to 5K: Week 2

Day 1: I had not run since the Friday before and I could definitely tell. I was sure to stretch though, and hit the track. This week upped the running time in between walks, and I was happy to find that even though it pushed me a bit, I was able to handle the longer running time. Once again, it was cold and rainy, but I manned up and did it anyways. I also started using music this week and that was a huge help. The run went smoothly, and left feeling good.

Day 2: Was pushed back a day later than normal, and it was cold. I had bought myself some running clothes though and got to break those in. Other than that, not much to report on that day. Things went smoothly, I was even able to toss in an extra running segment at the end and was proud of that. The only snag is my knees still bug me off and on, and some of my friends have been concerned. They are holding up ok though. The pain is never really bad, and I'm hoping that as my leg muscles get stronger, my knees will get better.

Day 3: Was also a day later than normal, but only so there wouldn't be two consecutive days of running. It was actually a beautiful day and there were lots of people at the track. I was equipped with an mp3 player this time, with a playlist I had created. The songs are ones I really like that are upbeat, that I thought would be good to run to. I was right, the songs were great, and helped keep my mind off my muscles hurting while I ran. If anything, that's what has bothered me when I ran this week. My lungs and heart seem to be keeping up fine, but certain muscles here and there will be protesting the runs. Not in a bad way, but in a sore muscle building way. Again today I was able to add in an extra running segment, and I went all out on the last one, and ran pretty hard. My legs were sore when I was done, but some stretching and time lapsing has taken care of that.

So it was a successful week I think. I'm kind of nervous about next week's program, where some of the running segments will be 3 minutes long, but I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it on Monday.

Oh, and sharing in case anyone is curious, my running playlist:

-"We Didn't Start the Fire" Billy Joel
-"Beautiful Day" U2
-"All the Small Things" Blink 182
-"Guilty Pleasure" Cobra Starship
-"City of Blinding Light" U2
-"Stacey's Mom" Fountains of Wayne
-"How Far We've Come" Matchbox Twenty
-"Jesse's Girl" Rick Springfield
-"Dirty Little Secret" All-American Rejects
-"Bring It" Cobra Starship
-"Impression that I Get" Mighty Mighty Bosstones
-"Young Folks" Peter Bjorn & John
-"Something In the Water" The Jealous Girlfriends

Now, that's more songs that the length of time that I run, even when you add in stretching and the warm up and cool down walking. I set it on shuffle, and I think it's nice to have more than what you need, so you know you won't have repeats.
