Music

I had promised a post on music, so here it is! Ta da!

As a musician, music has always been a huge part of my life. My love for it ranges far and wide from Journey to Hindemith. I have certain genres I have never been able to get into for some reason, (Country music, I'm looking at you.) but for the most part I like almost anything.

Over the past year I have been discovering more of the newer artists out there, and have been getting into them. Now, I'll admit part of this stems from the fact that I watch Grey's Anatomy. Part of why I like that show, is they will often find newer artists who are not well known, and they will use their music on the show. Ultimately, being on a show that popular, helps boost the popularity of that artist. So it's a win-win for everyone. The artists get more recognition, the fans get introduced to some new stuff, and the show gets great music to use that hasn't been played to death on all the other shows.

Not all of the newer artists I am digging have been due to a tv show though, some I have discovered on my own, or through my friends.

So, I guess let's get down to business, and I'll do a list of some of the music from the last year I have been diggin' that you may not have heard of.

1. Starship Cobra

I was introduced to this band about a year ago, when a friend messaged me letting me know she had an extra ticket to a concert, and asked if I wanted to go. I went and had a blast. Their music is just fun. They did have a song on the soundtrack to the awful movie Snakes on a Plane, but before that they weren't super well known. I think their popularity has been rising though.

2. Ida Maria

This one was on Grey's Anatomy. Her song that was featured was during a very romantic part, and was perfect for the moment. If you aren't into "chick music" you probably won't like her stuff. But if you do, the song is worth a listen all the way through.

3. Paolo Nutini

I first saw this guy on one of the late night talk shows. I don't remember which one. They were doing a 9/11 anniversary type show, and he performed this song, which was perfect, and a good one.

4. Bryn Christopher

Time to change gears a bit and go back to upbeat. This guy was another on Grey's Anatomy. His voice is different, and his music is different, but in a good way. I really dig it.

5. The Jealous Girlfriends

I don't remember where I first heard them, and really don't know who popular they are, because I don't listen to radio that much. And they probably aren't for everyone, but I like them.

A listen (this is on last.fm, and I don't know if you need an account or not to listen. I don't *think* you do.): http://www.last.fm/music/The+Jealous+Girlfriends/_/Something+in+the+Water

And there we go. I could probably go on, but I need to make dinner. Sometime in the next week, I'll post my playlist of "getting work done" music, which is upbeat music that gets me motivated to work.
