Countertops

I am getting to have fun lately. We've decided that with our tax return this year, we are going to put in new counters in the kitchen. The ones we have now are laminate, and chipped, and stained, and just well, scary. Like, I am glad I sleep upstairs and they are downstairs, scary.

I spent a good half hour the other night in the counter department at Lowe's, and then did it again at Home Depot. There are *so* many options, and it's going to be tough to decide. Do we go with good old Corian? With one of the varieties that looks like granite? Or do we go more modern with concrete or stainless steel? If we do stainless steel on the cooking side, can we do something else on the other side? Or do we do both sides the same? The possibilities are endless!

Today though I had an epiphany while I was scrubbing our dining room table. I was wrestling with getting some cheerios off when it dawned on me. Every parent knows there is no substance on earth as hard as cheerios that have been wet down, and then left to dry on the table.

So we could do the counters out of cheerios! It would be like concrete, but cheaper. And the kids could help! In fact, they are the experts, so I could just let them do all of it. It would be like This Old House meets Sesame Street.

So what did you decide on? I've always wanted concrete countertops...

We still haven't fully decided yet, but we are seriously considering copper. It's naturally antimicrobial, and would look great with our decor.
